A visit with Patricia – update from Denny
17 May 2015
Today at fellowship Monet presented yet another outstanding Sunday school lesson on “Know the Lord and let the Lord be Known”. She is a marvelous young woman who has mentored the youth group since they were young Sunday school class students. They love her and so do we.
Monet accompanied 8 members of the Loboc Linkers Youth Group to a full week of youth camp in Ubay. Each attendee shared their experience. Their Christian maturity was evident. They said it was the best ever camp because of the emphasis on scripture and sharing their love with others.
I had an opportunity to share our work in Kenya. They seemed very interested in fellow Christians on the other side of the world and the challenges they face in even getting clean water daily. Yet through difficult circumstances the Christians there and in this little barrio of Calunasan Sur have a different attitude.
That attitude is what has helped Patricia survive for over 70 years, despite having no legs and family members that take from her and not help her. Since moving into her home, they have felt it appropriate to take her food and frequently sleep in her house. When asked, she has no complaints, only a wonderful smile on her face. Whatever her situation she responds as Christ would respond. Truly, she is an example of a person who lives out “WWJD” What Would Jesus Do. It was a pleasure to be in HER OWN home and visit with her. The home is cozy, safe and conforms to her physical limitations. We were in the home of a very special lady!
We also visited the three siblings. Escencio, Victor and their sister Urbana. They are remarkable and also very very happy in their “home”. Their smiles are consistent and their remarks are appreciative. Their challenges are great for them and Patricia, None of them have any kind of financial or physical support from their family members who live only 20 feet from their new home. And they cannot provide for themselves. These beautiful people are the best example of the need for “Compassionate” giving. They cannot make it on their own.
We hope to have someone come along on one of the upcoming mission trips who will research what organizations, if any, can give food assistance, medical care, subsidized electricity and regular visitations. While we provide food on each visit, one or two visits don’t provide the level of support they need. Will you be the one?
I am a long talker…as my family and friends well know. These men and woman are of God’s creation and yet they have no voice…so I am their long talker!
God Bless you each one,
Denny Freed
