Packing Up

Yesterday, we drove 3 hours to visit a man who is very important to Pastor Samuel.  I have already packed my notebook so I can’t tell you his name, but he is Samuels mentor.  He is 86 yrs old and still climbing stairs!  He spoke english ok so we talked for a few minutes and then spent some time encouraging about 20 pastors that he advises.  The drive was worth it to meet him.  He is on the left in the photo.

We came back and spent some time shopping.  It was at a stainless steel store and it was cool!  Everything stainless steel, stacked from floor to ceiling.  Most durable kitchenware here is steel because it lasts a lifetime.  I bought a huge bag full of cups, plates and other fun things for about $15.  Or, maybe because they will be gifts for Christmas, I should say that I paid over 750 rupees (that way, it sounds more expensive.)

We ended our day with another trip into town for an evening worship service.  I would like to say that driving in India is something everyone should experience one time in their life.  But, driving at night?  I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.  Driving in the daytime, you can see the danger coming at you from a long ways away.  At night, the sound of the horn arrives first and you are left to wonder what size vehicle is making that sound…  Oh, the rules still apply: pass at all cost.  There were many times I felt the headlight from the oncoming car was inches from my face.  Then, suddenly, you are weaving back into the other lane which may or may not still be there.  Brother..

We are now packed and i can’t believe it’s already over.  It has been an incredible experience.  I have been blessed to be a part of this.  Keep us in your prayers as we travel.  Both Bryan and myself are exhausted and we have a lot of uncomfortable travel ahead of us.  Our flight from Mumbai (Bombay) to New Jersey is a 15 hours flight!  We can’t wait to see all of you and share more pictures and video of our time here.

Signing off from India,

 Jay
