January 2010 Trip – Day 6

There are so many significant events happening each day here that once you skip a day of blogging, it is hard to know where to begin.  Everyone is very busy trying to complete projects in an impossible amount of time.  Let’s start with the Learning Center (LC).  Jane and Cheryl have now indexed over 1,000 books shipped over from Montana last summer.  They are impressed with the quality of the books.  Some of the classroom material books that do not belong in the library were delivered to the teachers yesterday.  The first grade class opened one box and the kids all sat down and began reading them!  It was an incredible sound to hear 15 kids reading different books at the same time!  Meanwhile, Tom and Justin (Justin Haglund is from Florida/and Livingston) have been burried in a mountain of computers trying to prepare them for their eventual use in the computer lab in the LC.  Their expertise in this area has been very valuable.  Josh Donald is nearly finished painting the school equipment and adding some very cool accessories like a zip line and climbing wall.  Mery Donald has captured untold number of photographs, all of which you see in the video and on her blog.  Jeane is in Cebu with Vicki Accain searching for materials and products to help grow the small business hut we have set up downtown.  Denny and Ellen are hard at work like the gears in a clock making sure everyone has what they need and that we are all fed and comfortable.  Things progress everyday and it has been fun to observe it all and be a part of capturing the history.  If there is time today, you might see a feature story on the aquaculture project – it is doing remarkably well! Here a a couple of pictures from a walking tour we did yeaterday.
