Sharing Lunch

We just returned from Kenya and had the opportunity to visit the Lower Oloosekin school and check in on the new school lunch program, which just completed its second month. The students are thriving, and the school is growing! They now have…

The new Kenya school year began two weeks ago and we are sharing in the excitement of the new Montana on a Mission school lunch program at the Lower Oloosekin school. The students are served a lunch of either maize and beans or rice and beans throughout the week with the addition of vegetables. Usually tomatoes, carrots, onions, potatoes, and greens. The students’ parents have come together to pay a mother to cook and clean up. ❤️Currently, the cost is about 50 cents per student per day. We will be reassessing and making any necessary adjustments to the quantity of food needed at the end of each month. We also expect the enrollment to rise as news reaches other families that their children can receive a hot, nutritious meal each day at school. Enrollment was about 35 students before we drilled the clean water well there in late 2020 and now is near 60 students. Over the past year we built a new building with two additional classrooms, latrines, hand washing stations and desks for the teachers and students. We were also able to help provide the government required curriculum. The school currently includes preschool through grade 2. Most of these schools add a grade per year as students advance.
