Arrival in India

We arrived safely to Madurai, India today at about 3am Montana time.  After a quick picture of the airport (followed by a severe scolding from an armed military officer – not to take any more pictures of the airport!),  we drove into Madurai and had lunch at a local hotel.  Believe me when I say that spicy is the word of the day   The look and feel of Madurai is remarkably similar to the Philippines with the traffic honks, exposed wires and people everywhere.  We will get more pictures soon.  What is not missing is the severe poverty so familiar to us.  There were many people asleep on sidewalks and wondering the street.  Another familiarity were the street vendors woking hard to eek out a living selling coconuts, bananas and many other fruits and vegetables.

Tomorrow we will head over to one of the orphanages.  I will have more to report then.  It’s good to be here and its time for a nap – horizontal and not in an airline seat (and don’t get me started about how much smaller those tiny seats seem to get each time we travel!)
