A season of JOY

In this third week of advent the focus is on Joy.

Joy is not dependent upon what is happening on the outside of a person, it is all about how we choose to react on the inside. Joy, like love, is a choice, not an emotion. It isn’t a natural choice for a human left to their own devices. Sustained joy requires the work of the Holy Spirit in the soul and a heart connection with the Lord. Joy is a response to having the Holy Spirit within us and it’s a precious gift that needs to be shared.

Joy and happiness are not the same thing. Joy does not require a smile or comfort or any specific circumstance. It is God’s will for us; “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

Because of what our Lord has done in our salvation, through his human birth and resurrection, joy is now a possibility for everyone!

The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad. Psalm 118:24
