Water well update

A small girl struggles to carry a heavy load of water to her home.

Things are progressing at Ilturisho, the site of MOM’s first water well in Kenya.  Josh traveled to Nairobi for a few days early this week to meet with the drilling company.  The contract was signed, down payment made and we are hoping to see the rig arrive next week!  It will be such an awesome sight when the trucks roll in and get set up.  The community is so thankful and happy to be the recipient of this well.  On the way to our meeting last week we met this little girl struggling to carry a 20L can of water back to her home.  She had walked about a mile each way and probably weighs as much as the load she was carrying!

Friday afternoon we will begin holding health and hygiene trainings at the manyattas.  Working with several families at once to share knowledge about keeping the water clean, hand washing, germs, disease transmission and general hygiene.  We will also provide materials and show them how to set up a “tippy-tap” hand washing station. Here is a video showing how to make and use a tippy-tap.  This gadget helps to encourage frequent handwashing using very little water.  Its design also prevents cross contamination as it is operated by a foot pedal.

Thank you for your prayers of support for this mission!  Please continue to pray for great quantities of clean water from the well, open and willing minds and hearts for health training and that Christ’s love would shine through our work here.
