Life – Light – Water
What did all of the images from yesterday’s post have in common? If you guessed water – your right! – partially. These images also show our brothers and sisters in Christ, children of God!
Montana on a Mission (MOM) has always been about showing the love of Christ to the world. It began even before the organization had a name. MOM founders, Denny and Ellen Freed, saw great need in a small Filipino village and followed the call of the Holy Spirit to be His hands and feet to that community. Since that day Montana on a Mission has continued to be Spirit led. Needs have been laid before us in the areas of housing, disaster relief, education, nutrition and medical compassion. More than 200 people have participated directly on one of our mission work trips.
In 2014 Denny signed on with another organization, Vital Solutions, to help in the construction of a medical clinic in rural Southern Kenya. After he visited in December it became apparent that the community that would be served by the new clinic was first and foremost in need of a clean, reliable water source. Last month Denny and Ellen, along with Josh and Mery Donald traveled to the Maasai community of Empopongi to develop several small springs that could provide ample, clean water to about 2000 people.
The village is located in a semi-arid climate and water is scarce. The nearest water source is a seasonal river about 1km from the school and about 5km from the furthest homesteads in the community. Women walk the distance with their 20L jerry cans several times per day to gather water for their families. When they arrive at the river they must dig down in to the dry riverbed until they get to water. The women then skim water from the hole and fill their can before strapping it to their backs and returning home.
In the coming weeks we will be introducing you to the Empopongi water project and sharing stories from our amazing time in Kenya working alongside the wonderful people we now hold in our hearts as friends. We will also be asking for your support through prayer and financial gifts to fund the project.
Thank you in advance for sharing our commitment to being a source of light… and life (water!) to the people of Empopongi
